I think the schedule thing failed, so I give up.  Yesterday, I hit the "sit down and internet" item on the schedule and stayed there for the rest of the day, only interrupted when the dinner guest deadline arrived.  Luckily it did, or it would have been cheese on toast for dinner.

Sometime soon I will run out of internet based things to do and get out of bed to attempt the Rowany Festival packup/cleanup thing and cleaning all of the house.  Although if I wanted to stay in bed I could probably do paid work for the rest of the day.

I think Rose needs to get out of the house and/or a bit engaged in the world before she heads to school tomorrow.  She's a bit grumpy right now for that to go well. I can't do that from my bed, unfortunately.

I've spent the morning obsessing over getting organised for Quest, you've probably seen the 10 separate updates to the event description on FB, the advertising, the event form and the booking form.  I've also started making a list of the infrastructure we'll need.

I have a tentative sewing/clothing list for Quest:
wool flemish for me
wool jacket for me
black wool partlet for me
black gumboots for Rose and me
Woolen venetians for Rose
woolen thermals for rose
And I'll be fitting that around work - lots of work, apple processing next weekend, spring cleaning and decluttering the whole house, paying someone to re-roof the house (just decided to pay someone else to paint the house too).

It's a good think I just started paying for office space 2 days a week - I'm going to need to cram all work into 3 days so I can do the rest of the stuff I want to do on thursdays and Fridays.

Today is the second day I have woken at 5.30am, read the internet for a while and then rolled over and gone back to sleep until 9ish.   I'm still catching up with the daylight savings change.  I was speaking to someone who suggested that you get more sleep at this end of daylight savings, but I always get less - I stay awake later because, "the clock says it's only 11pm" and then wake at my normal, pre daylight savings time of 6.30am, but it's only 5.30am which loses me an hour of sleep every day for a week.

I have huge plans for today and I'm going to schedule them so I'm more likely to get them all done. The list is;

Make booking form for Quest and submit event form
Sit in bed with a computer and tea until 11am

do 2 sessions of 1 hour on work stuff I need finished before Monday
Spend 30min cleaning my bedroom
Wash all woollens from Festival, as well as the new brown wool I bought yesterday to make my own Flemish dress before Quest.
That means I also need to empty Rose's chest, so I think I'll spend 30min on her room at the same time
spend 1 hour cleaning the  Kitchen
go to the market
Spend 1-2 hours making 2 protege belts (only need one right now, but it'll be easier if I make a second)

And here's how the schedule goes;

9.30am Sit in bed with computer and tea AND do Quest stuff (multi-tasking!)
10am Sit in bed with computer and tea AND do 1hr of work
11am shower, dress and empty chests, put on load of washing still need to empty Rose chest (just retrieved the woollens) .
11.30am go to market

12.30am 1pm flop for 30min; read the internet, eat food
1.30pm clean the kitchen AND hang out washing
2pm 1hr work session
3pm commence protege belt making
4pm clean bedroom
4.30pm clean Rose's room
5pm put dinner on and finish protege belt (I love roasts)

Phew! that was hard!  I don't feel so enthusiastic now.

Miss Rebellion's voice was heard early this morning, "weekends are for just drifting through and having a nice time".  And I may do that, but it's nice to know what it is that I'm going to regret not getting done.

Monthly Bash today, so this morning I need to prepare by increasing my salt and water intake.  It would also be nice to;

work on the presentation
fix my sword
sew that gambeson
make some nice snackage

this morning I have successfully achieved a Sunday morning requirement - I have slept in.  And shortly I will achieve another - pancakes for breakfast.

Here's the plan, complete with this out clause so I can avoid doing it if I get attacked by CBF's

8.30-9ish work on sword while drinking tea and watching mr-bassman make pancakes
9-9.30 eat pancakes
9.30-11.30 presentation
11.30-12.30 look at gambeson and decide if an hour is sufficient
12.30-1 get organised for Bash

Because it's sunday, I'm going to leave my evening to whim.  Aren't I generous?
mrsbrown: (Default)
to try and cram in the activities I had planned for my holiday. I go back to work in 5 days.  I have 4 days to complete the following;

complete the christmas process without embarrassing myself due to a lack of appropriate gifts - this includes at least 3 sewing projects by Sunday. mostly.  It's over now and I can't do anything about it, although I still have to finish the buttonholes on one gift.

finish knitting my cardy
I also started a jumper for Rose, that's almost finished too but I don't have time to do it if I'm to do any of the other things.

make the dress that in my head goes with the cardy
finish the dress that was in my head last summer
finish the other two sewing ufo's hanging over my head

Nope!  No sewing done yet - looking unlikely, see kitchen note below.

build a back fence and gate
draw the renovation that I've been drawing for 6 years

Today I decide if the back fence gets done or I do something else.

lie on the couch reading or watching television for 3 days in a row I may have done more than 3 days of this...
go shopping for new work clothes

mend work clothes
buy a new fridge
spend a couple of days hanging out with friends

a couple of easy ones so that I would have stuff to cross off.  Although the new fridge prompted me to decide to pull apart the kitchen and re-surface the floor.  That's been made harder by the moral collapse yesterday, but it should be finished today - as soon as I buy more paint, wait for people to have breakfast and showers and close the kitchen for the day.

pull apart Rose's room and put it back together
This may be easier to do as MsNotaGoth is nagging for it, so the amplifier collection can get out of her room and into her sister's.

and some other stuff
I started using asana these holidays.  It's been good to just keep adding projects and then reviewing and moving the from the "today" or "upcoming" lists to the "later" list.  It removes the guilt of not doing them, but keeps them as possibilities for my future.  Based on the asana list and my calendar, here's how I'm going to spend the next 4 days;

finish kitchen
do work thing that's due on Monday but I didn't finish before christmas
work on Jumper
See Sherlock Holmes 1
See Sherlock Holmes 2
attend conference thingy for morning
attend birthday gathering in arvo
clean my bedroom
sort finances, and book keeping process
review back gate project for feasibility and planning
update tent blog

Let me see... what can I do while I lie here in bed...?

mrsbrown: (domestic goddess)
I'm enjoying not making lists of stuff to do.  I feel more of a sense of achievement for just having a nice weekend.  OTOH, there's some stuff I would like to have addressed by the end of today;

pad my new helmet
finish that report I was supposed to finish at work on Friday
sort out a list of stuff to do with the buying of that new house
plant the zucchini plants I bought yesterday
participate as much as necessary (as little as possible) in the painting of the front room
clean up all the things

and, to make it easy for myself;

lie in bed reading the internet and drinking tea - done
mrsbrown: (Default)
Today I want to;

Go bike shopping. Will I buy the Allegro, the Trek Soho.or the Kona? or something else? I tried out those three on Friday and I really enjoyed the Allegro, but when I mentioned the Kona to the guy at the shop, he told me I should just buy that one - even though he didn't have one in stock. The Trek is cheaper, but still has the same high quality integral hub. I also like the integrated fenders. Except I seem to be wanting to modify both the Kona and the Trek to have the swept handlebars and twist gear mechanism of the Allegro. Maybe I really want the Allegro? It's much cheaper again.
I'm going shopping to work out if actually I just want a "good enough" bike with standard gears and brakes, or if there's another bike that I haven't seen yet that will give me what I want. It's a bit hard when people are raving about the higher spec'd Alfine internal hub and how desirable it is. Hmmm, I just found a review that says what a shame it is that the gear shifter for the Alfine isn't a twist shift - I guess I'm on the right track?

The modified Allegro:

Machine sew my gambeson to handsewing stage.
Clean the stove
Support mr-bassman in sewing a tent.
Book accommodation for our weekend away in a fortnight.
See HP7.2

I haven't been bike shopping
I haven't finished my gambeson (not for lack of trying)
I haven't hit the pell
I haven't picked up the clothes off my bedroom floor so mr-bassman can vacuum
I didn't buy cat food or milk
I didn't have a nap.

I also didn't
leave the kitchen a filthy mess
make mr-peacock work alone on his gambeson
fail to make progress on the sleeves of my gambeson
insist that mr-bassman catch a taxi to his gig
allow Rose to create havoc or watch TV all day
leave Rose dirty
or fail to support her education
mrsbrown: (Default)
I refuse to read the internet until I've written this down.

Here's what I want to do in the next little while:

Make some interesting clothes for work.
Go shopping for clothes for work - sjkasabi?
Write up the feedback/commentary for the food organisation at SE
Work out a way to list the stuff we want to do at the farm and work out what we want to do first.  So many things! So little time/energy/money!
Attend to my mental health - get some "me" time, do stuff just for me and nobody else.  Maybe I'll go away for a day or two.
Take Rose swimming most days.

And some other stuff.
mrsbrown: (domestic goddess)
one load of washing
made soap to do the washing
wrote up menu for Surveying Expedition and started planning spreadsheet
took down the christmas tree
read a book
hung washing inside
started thinking about the next iteration of my garden
investigated hardware for the back gate replacement

Now what?

Later:  the answer was; eat chocolate, chat about Surveying and the ethics of volunteers who pay to attend, and chat to MsNotaGoth in London.

Now, I'm going to bed - after I've finished reading enough of the internet that I can be sure nothing interesting will be happening for a few hours and I can take my eyes away from it.
mrsbrown: (Default)
I collected the research for sjkasabi's christmas present and put it in a private post, which I've just unlocked.

I just updated my phone plan. Telstra aren't advertising it but if you're on a $10 data plan you might want to give them a ring and update your data allowance from 200MB to 1GB.  The phone no is 132200.  Doushkasmum and sjkasabi, I'm looking at you.

Coming home from staying at a house that doesn't have your normal clutter is a eye opener.  You arrive and realise that the thing you've been putting up with is unacceptable and really easy to fix.  It's important to move on this inclination quickly, before the apathy moves back in.  Here's what I want to change:

1. I should buy proper, grownup furniture that will fit all of my clothes in it so I don't need to store them on the floor.  I also realised that I've always wanted antique furniture so maybe I should just buy it?  It's not like I'm a poor student anymore.

2. I don't know what else, but I think I'm going to buy a new mattress for my sofa bed.  It will be more conservational than just buying a new sofa bed.  OTOH, a quick look at the IKEA website suggests a mattress pad may be the way to go.  I see an IKEA visit in my near future.

I want to write the list of things to do.  Nothing makes for justifiable procrastination like writing a list, but I've already written it.

I'll have to make do with the list of stuff I need to arrange before we head to the kitchen erection next weekend:

arrange childcare?
source/ get a quote for terracotta shingles
resolve batten spacing to suit the shingles/tiles we decide to use
arrange delivery of 90x45 undressed KD hardwood to site - I'll get lime delivered at the same time.

And here's what else I'd like to cram into this week;

sleep and lying around on the internet
source books to read (yuletide might be an acceptable substitute).  Also more Temeraire and Tiffany Aching.
making a tent - I refuse to start until Wednesday, and 6 hours per day is all I want to do.
An IKEA visit (see above)
2 steps towards a tidier, more organised house.

Home!

Stuff to write about - tomorrow:

The development of the kitchen
the task list for finishing the kitchen
what it feels like to stay in a "real" house and then come home

right now, I'm really tired and I've had the traditional shower on arrival home.  I'm ready to sleep.

Have done

It seems like people have been reasonably productive today and I'm all inspired.  Here's what I have achieved for today.

Slept 'til nine
Found yesterday's chemise to wear as I laze around the house
Said goodbye to our guests
Eaten breakfast prepared by mr-bassman
Read the internet (twice!)
Washed chocolate spread from Rose's hands
Watched mr-bassman wash chocolate spread from Rose's face
Ascertained that my eldest daughter is alive (and tempted her with Sinterklaas, which I realised later she's too late for)
Finished reading the last Tiffany Aching book
Watched mr-bassman play guitar while lying flat on the floor

Admire! Oh internet! Marvel at the productivity I display!

What shall I do next? The day is yet young!

mr-bassman thinks we should watch Black Books.  I might make my sewing list for January.

mrsbrown: (Default)
Because I'm certainly exploding with the things I _need_ to do RIGHT NOW!  That's why I got out of bed at 6.30am.

In the interests of keeping my living room ceiling free of organic matter, here they are;

Mark where the toggles go on the tent I need to sew tonight.
Start at the corners and work inwards - only 25mm out
Make the list of tasks for Kitchen building on Saturday and enthuse people to come and help
Work out how many guys I want on my new tent, document it and then work out how much rope we'll need to buy.  New wordpress post here.
Do about half an hour of work before I travel to work this morning, to make up for leaving early on Friday
Work out how to help Sneetch through his "oh my god I put off doing my homework and now it's all due in 4 days" angst
Decide if it would be useful to pour a slab for the kitchen hearth
Make the Surveying Expedition booking form

And then we get to the ones that have been there pretty constantly for the past few weeks;

Write an angsty post about the way my brain's working at  the moment
Clear the SEP corner back to something that doesn't attract more stuff
Rearrange the books in my hallway
Do a house maintenance/renovation item each weekend
Sort out the empty bedroom so Sneetch can move into it, Rose can move into Sneetch's room and the music studio can be set up.
work out what to do about the enormous floor slope in the empty bedroom and hall
Find a way to get mr-bassman to do some of these tasks, without him calling them "honey-doos" and failing to do them.

Is there a website out there that you can put your list into, with categories, and then you can nominate a category and the website will give you a random, single to-do item.  Something like [personal profile] quatrefoil 's jar with post-it notes? I want several jars:  5 min task, 30min task, 1 hr task, house renovation task, hobby task.  That way, I could write the renovation list of doom and avoid getting overwhelmed by it.  I guess it might need some level of dependencies, but that could be developed later.

mrsbrown: (domestic goddess)
Read the internet and then blog about how you can't work out which of the 5 things last popped into your head to do, to do.

And then add a few more because that's how your brain works.

Also, today I channeled Mrs Rachel Lynde and told a woman at the supermarket to do up the straps on the baby holding supermarket trolley so her 3 month old baby couldn't roll out onto the concrete.  Yes, she doesn't roll yet.  Do you want her first roll to be her last?

Save what strawberries I can and dry them
Prune the grapevine out the front

Recombobulate the tricycle Sneetch took apart when I was pregnant so that he could fix it for Rose to ride.  First mr-bassman has to find the box of bits.
Help mr-bassman cut grapes for verjuice - pulping on Tuesday night?
Do the washing
Write that post for Geekfeminism.  Working title, "Is it because I'm a woman, or because I'm me?"
Write that post for me about my developing self perception from when I was very small to now
mrsbrown: (Default)
We didn't buy ceiling fans :(  I miss them already.

We didn't rearrange the TV corner, or buy a TV.

Ms NotaGoth got her licence

Ms NotaGoth announced her return to school - probably.

Rose's room is still too hard to play in - except if you're a small girl who wants to try on every dress in the bag of clothes we were given by my cousin.  3 so far tonight and counting, I think  I've seen about 10 on the floor - how many does she need?

We've failed in expanding Rose's gender stereotyping.  When Sneetch wore one of Rose's butterfly hair clips her major objection was that boys aren't allowed to wear pink!

The kitchen building has started!  We have wood and most of a wall.

The composting toilets are most of the way to completion.  The boxes are made, the containers obtained.  Now I just need to install taps and some aggie pipe for oxygenation and drainage.  Also, obtain large quantities of sawdust and sort out placement and privacy screens.

aaargh!  hot!  and work tomorrow!  aaargh!
mrsbrown: (domestic goddess)
Repaint the hallway floor
Reorganise my books - get my authors together
Sort out my bedroom, throw out clothes, put away others and revise clothing storage so I don't have to throw them all in a pile
Finish sorting out Rose's room - organise better clothes storage and get rid of stuff that doesn't fit
I now have an offer of a chest of drawers - now to organise a time to collect it.

Install new kitchen cabinets so I don't have to have cutlery in a drawer on a chair
Paint the wall above the stove
Finish assimilating stuff from giving Rose her own room and find more room in the Family room
The stuff went into Sneetch's room for a while, but it's back again!

Rearrange the television corner so it isn't
Justify buying a new TV that we can use to watch iview and photos from our laptops
Not going to do this - I got my laptop to do it with S-video.  The my laptop spontaneously decided to acknowledge only one display - I can't seem to view the second one.  It worked for a little while at 11pm one night. :(

Rearrange the backyard to fit more vegie garden and a chook run
Build a medieval kitchen shack with my friends
Still working out if this is possible in the time/energy we have available.  I will price timber today.

Finish the plumbing for [personal profile] sjkasabi
Spend an hour a day driving with MsNotaGoth in preparation for her driving test
Buy ceiling fans for our bedrooms
Resolve the lighting in the Family room so we can install ceiling fans without suffering from flicker but keep the room as a workroom (we have strip fluorescent lights, ugly but very functional)
Draw up [personal profile] sjkasabi 's existing kitchen and laundry to scale so she and martinlemechant can draw all over it
Hurrah! Something I can cross off!

Arrange printing of the business cards that monstah so cleverly designed, but I never got to.
Make Mr-bassman's christmas present
Make Mrpeacock's christmas present
Take Sneetch shopping for his christmas present
Work out what to give MsNotaGoth for christmas
Have a faux christmas day with pancakes, a tree, a large lunch and all my children
   planned for Thursday night/Friday

Spend a day sewing with [info]rain_and_snow
It's looking like Tuesday or Thursday will be best for this.

Organise/build composting toilets for Surveying
Prototype made, another three to be made after comments at Fighter Training tomorrow night.

and look, it worked!  I can cross these off my list.

Read several books
Nap when necessary
Go to a New Years Eve party
Sleep in

mrsbrown: (domestic goddess)
I don't seem to be as broken this year as I have been other years. It's only 2 days since christmas and my mind is overflowing with the things I'd like to get done. Here are some of the things on the top. I'll use this whenever I get bored.

Install new kitchen cabinets so I don't have to have cutlery in a drawer on a chair
Paint the wall above the stove
Finish assimilating stuff from giving Rose her own room and find more room in the Family room
Rearrange the television corner so it isn't
Justify buying a new TV that we can use to watch iview and photos from our laptops
Rearrange the backyard to fit more vegie garden and a chook run
Build a medieval kitchen shack with my friends
Finish the plumbing for [personal profile] sjkasabi
Spend an hour a day driving with MsNotaGoth in preparation for her driving test
Buy ceiling fans for our bedrooms
Resolve the lighting in the Family room so we can install ceiling fans without suffering from flicker but keep the room as a workroom (we have strip fluorescent lights, ugly but very functional)
Draw up [personal profile] sjkasabi 's existing kitchen and laundry to scale so she and martinlemechant can draw all over it
Arrange printing of the business cards that monstah so cleverly designed, but I never got to.
Make Mr-bassman's christmas present
Make Mrpeacock's christmas present
Take Sneetch shopping for his christmas present
Work out what to give MsNotaGoth for christmas
Have a faux christmas day with pancakes, a tree, a large lunch and all my children
Spend a day sewing with [livejournal.com profile] rain_and_snow
Organise/build composting toilets for Surveying

and, to make sure I can cross some things off this list in 17 days;

Read several books
Nap when necessary
Go to a New Years Eve party
Sleep in
mrsbrown: (Default)
What is it with me and things to do?

Since Friday I have decided to do the following things:

make garden beds and plant them with tomatoes, capsicum and basil
install the water tank I got for free from work
move the compost bin and make more garden bed where the compost bin is
help Sneetch make curtains (fabric bought cheap yesterday)
recover the couch in my living room that has a bunch of rips and looks ugly (fabric bought cheap yesterday)
clean my bedroom and get my dry cleaning processed
clean the sink
go to Bash.

I have to do every single one of these things RIGHT NOW!!! but there are so many things that I've immobilised myself with indecision and it's quite likely I won't do any of them.

Of course, before I can start one of them I have to do the following things;

find Rose's clothes
dress Rose
argue with Rose about TV watching
find clothes for me to wear (probably getting sidetracked into tidying my room)
finish writing this blarney

by which time, it will be time to organise snacks and clothes for Bash. (Yes, I could dump Bash, but I don't really want to - I want to find the bits of my old life I enjoyed and rework them so I can keep doing them)

Sometimes I don't understand my brain.
mrsbrown: (Default)
My Tuesday list is too long.

And complicated by a dentist visit and possible work meeting afterwards.

I'll just keep surfing and drinking cups of tea until I can face it.

Then I'll make it shorter.

Maybe I'll just leave one thing on it.

Next Tuesday might be a Wednesday, when Rose will be a kinder all day and I won't have to negotiate around her.
mrsbrown: (Default)
Thanks to Sneetch, I feel a bit like crap.  The panadol will kick in anytime now and I'll feel up to doing stuff.

What stuff?

This stuff:

go buy the last of the fabric we need for the Midwinter banner project.
finish up the plaster prototypes for casting
Midwinter admin
piggy back on mr-bassman's forging plan and melt some pewter for a casting trial

I'll also have a nap, go to dinner with their imminances and be part of the actual construction of banners this evening.

In my copious spare time, I'll be a part of Rose's kindergarten visit, write the post about being the parent of a 21 year old I've been planning, get MsNotaGoth to go to school and recover from this nasty disease.
