You may have heard about the drugs in Richmond this week.  The council opposes putting CCTV cameras on Victoria St and wants a Safe Injecting Facility instead.  Yep, I want an SIF too.

There is a path worn in my garden where people are walking to access my tap.  There is a person shaped nest next to the tap and I have to be careful of drug debris when I walk or garden in the area next to my house.  We've even had to bolt closed the side gate to stop people going into our backyard to shoot up.

I wish they'd go back to using the rear lane.

Yesterday, a junkie passed out in the exposed side of the house.  mr-bassman saw him from the kitchen window, determined he was breathing and left him there.  sjkasabi didn't even bother looking.  But Sneetch called the police an hour or two later.  They suggested an ambulance was more suitable, so some paramedics came and got him off our property.  Sneetch then rang the State Member and harangued him for 30min on what he was going to do to get us a SIF.  I'm so proud.

I really don't want to build a high fence with a locked gate.  I want to say hello to my neighbors as they walk past, I want people to be able to see when there are junkies or people breaking into my house.  In the past I have thought about a high fence just for the side - maybe I need to think about that again.

In the past I have had neighbors who would call the police when they saw "suspicious looking characters" in my property.  Maybe I need to chat with the neighbors and agree to either call the police or personally hassle junkies on our properties.  Maybe we need to send them back to the back lane.  I wonder how it would go if I installed a rainwater tank and tap so there was water there.  Maybe a syringe bucket too.

hmmm, perhaps I'll make this suggestion on the local councillor's facebook page.  Imagine if every lane in Richmond had a tap and syringe bucket and residents seeing junkies told them to go and use in the back lane.  I don't see how the police could watch them all at once.

Right, here I go.
