10.15am and I've been awake in bed for 4.5 hours. Soon, I'll get up soon.

The Zafira is no more and we are now a carless/free family. We're still deciding what we want to do about it.

Yesterday I calculated that over the past 6 years it has cost us about $8,500 to own a car, or $160/week. When we had a car that meant we could do the following activities:
monday training with armour (for 3)
Thursday training (mostly because I have the etag)
miscellaneous shopping run for craft/hardware materials once per week
weekend actiivities up to 3 per weekend
3 monthly weekends away
yearly long trip

To do those with a mix of car share and hire cars will cost from $4000 to $11000 per year, depending on how often we really use it and which car share firm we sign up with. Unfortunately, the cheapest one doesn't have cars in easy access to home but I've contacted them requesting something closer.

Our other option is to buy a silly, cheap, disposable car and just run it until it stops and then buy another one.

Our other, other option is to lease a car through my sister's car manufacturer workplace.

Right now, I think we might upscale our cycling infrastructure (tandem or trailer for Rose?), join the car share close to home and be prepared to PT out and taxi home from places.

comments
