I've just read an industry article about volunteerism.

It presented the results of a survey of about 1000 new volunteers to the CFA.

It found that 18-34 year old volunteers are more motivated by self concerns - career advancement, skills development, new challenges and friendship opportunities - than other age groups.

Maybe it's obvious but I think we could be using these reasons for joining the SCA when we are handing out flyers. Where else can you take on conference organising for 1000 people, as a hobby?

Here I am brainstorming at 1AM

That's really worth considering.

For career advancement, phrases and words like:

-event organisation and promotion.

-public speaking.

-catering. (access to commercial kitchens and large numbers of hungry people...)

-research and presentation skills.

-group skills.

-teamwork.

-mentoring/supervising and being mentored/supervised(thinking here about laurels and apprentices, knights and squires)

-individual project management(getting your act together to get laurelled, or even just enter small comps., for example).

-juggling the needs and interests of a wide variety of individuals with the group's priorities and goals.

-something about being creative in semi-public forums(arts and sciences) - creative confidence.

-something about being able to be physically confident in semi-public forums(fighters) - physical confidence and presence, physical fitness.

-networking skills.

...all with a focus on delightfully anachronistic topics and activities.

Now you have to go to my post where I ask you to describe how CFS effects me, and leave a comment.
