Jan. 26th, 2010 05:23 pmI've touched on some of the things I'd like to see at Surveying Expedition next year, but only the toilet ones. Here's some other stuff;
We talked about finding ways to reduce hire costs for the event and I suggested that we replace the chair hire with benches. Thinking a bit more, it would be less work and storage to make tables and might save more money. Maybe something like this - http://midtown.net/dragonwing/col0105.htm
Obviously, we will have the kitchen next year. We might need to source a way to tin a traditional copper pot so we can build it into the kitchen for continuous hot water.
I'll be interested to see how the kitchen changes the vibe. At the moment all the cooking happens on a fire in sight of everything else that's happening. The campfire is then used for people to sit around at night. That will change when the fire is in the kitchen. Then again, kitchen's are popular places to hang out at parties. Maybe we can find a way to make the preparation a more open activity.
My tent needs changes. I need to finish making the larger door and make the small back door. I'm also interested in lifting the height of the bottom seam and sewing in a sod type cloth. I also want to make a roof vent so on hot days I can lift the sod cloth and open the roof vent and maximise ventilation. It would also be fun to experiment with this alternative technique for raising our tents. It might not work with our enormous pole, but would probably work well for sjkaskabi's tent and doushkasmum's tent. Also the new tent we are planning.
