Thanks to [personal profile] damned_colonial  (and a large list of other things to do) this morning I decided that what I need to do with all the time I spend on the couch is knit!

I'm all inspired by the following books:

Patterns for Guernseys, Jerseys & Arans
Traditional Fair Isle Knitting

I have Rutt, but I like this single page precis of the history of knitting and I'm reminded that I still haven't solved my felted acorn hat shrinkage rate problem.

Of course the knitted items I would like to own are hand knitted socks and a 30's style lace or aran cardigan with a collar

My next pair of hand knitted socks is most of the way through the first foot. Heel coming up soon. I am liking the wendy knits toe up pattern, so far it is working.

I have two pairs of hand knitted socks [livejournal.com profile] drwhacky made me, and one that [livejournal.com profile] montjoye made and they are fabulous. I consciously sort of ration out wearing them so I don't wear them to death.

The DrW ones are big and chucky and most go under Docs, when I wear them, or work as bed socks. One pair has this very cunning decorative patch of a different colour on heel and toe. Except it's more than just decorative, the wool it's made of is extra feltable for some reason, and under the heel in particular this means it gives extra padding. I have often thought I'd like more socks like that. I may even learn to knit them one day :)
