It hurts!

I sat for too long yesterday, and it is getting me back today. It felt a bit better after work, then I ran for the tram and hurt it again.

I HATE working when I am uncomfortable. I have been uncomfortable all week.

Last time it hurt like this I was uncomfortable for about 18 months. I don't want to do that again. It got better after the following things:

  • I went overseas and walked everywhere for 7 weeks

  • I changed jobs

  • This included changing chairs (I noticed it had extra support where I like it)

  • I got a boyfriend. (there is a theory that back pain is associated with a lack of emotional support)

I had already noticed that the chair at my new place of work doesn't support like the old one did. I've been using an old towel to provide extra support, after my request for an alternative chair got nowhere.

Today in the tram I started fantasising about not working for two or three weeks. I could walk every day and do the sorts of things I did on that 7 week break I had last time. I could visit the Immigration museum, Melbourne museum, Scienceworks, the Art Gallery, Heide. I could wander Dandenong looking for Vincent's new wool shop, I could go shopping for clothes with [livejournal.com profile] splodgenoodles. I could swim every day and walk wherever I want to go.

Unfortunately, I can't see my boss being too impressed. "You know how people are unhappy with my attendance? That they think I'm never here? I would like to take 2-3 weeks off work. Is that OK?

Logically it seems reasonable. If I had to have an operation, I would take the time off. Is this 'time out' to fix my back any different?

Yeah, I know, this is the real world, and I have a mortgage to service and kids to pay school fees for.

In other news, I am now an Accredited Greenstar Professional. I completed the 2hr45min exam in one hour, had time to write snarky comments about the questions and got a score of 87%. I needed 75% to pass.
