end of holiday panic
Jan. 2nd, 2004 11:17 pmI've hit the pointy end of my hols - now I'm desperately doing all the things I have on my list.
So today I: stayed up until 4am reading, worked frantically on my woodwork project for the A&S comp tomorrow (I've just stopped for the night), gotten T supplied and packed for Jamboree on Sunday, and tried to finish T's shoes for the A&S comp on Sunday.
The results of my efforts:
I finished the entire Honor Harrington series I've been plugging away at for the last 3-4 weeks. I enjoyed the ending but it was a real slog to get there, particularly the frustrating, stupid politicians at the beginning of the last book. I did enjoy the fight scenes once they got going (at about midnight last night) and I'm glad David Weber finally worked out that Graysons are polygamous so Harrington and White Haven should just go for it.
The woodwork project is starting to look like a thing, I just have to commit to finishing it now - I keep wanting to add to it. Unfortunately, if I choose to finish it tomorrow I probably won't have a good time tomorrow night at the feast, or do it as well as I would like. If I do get up early I'll get tired in the evening and start wishing I was at home, and stop socialising. Oh well, I should manage to finish it in time for the next deadline.
T is packed for Jamboree and also now owns her first bra thingy. It's a gym type crop top, that she can wear under a t-shirt when she is doing quick changes for the Jamboree opening and closing ceremonies she is performing in.
T's shoes for the comp only need about 1/2 hour work, unfortunately, they are too small for her feet. Either her feet have grown since I made the pattern or I just didn't leave enough room across her arch. As T says - "We can sell them!" I'll probably finish them for Sunday.
My efforts today also included negotiating with MTB (M The Bastard ) so that T felt OK about doing her chores there before coming over to my place.
I called her this morning to find out how much time I had on my own, and she tearily told me she had to sweep and mop the kitchen floor and then MTB would "discuss what else needed to be done" before she could leave. I coached T in dealing with him - do what he asks and then ask for a definite answer on what needed to be done before leaving, then call me if it doesn't work.
She rang back 30min later and I had a chat with MTB about T's request for an ending time. He gave me a huge speil about how when he asks T to do housework she always carries on, while the boys "just get on with it". His vitriol about T made me feel like having a huge argument with him, bringing up they way he used to treat me and comparing it to his treatment of T. I took a deep breath however, made suggestions about how I get T to do stuff and asked him to give her a finite number of tasks so she could leave when she'd finished them.
I don't usually like interfering with MTB's household running, but I felt that T needed help and I focussed on supporting MTB's stand on housework/chores. I think I carried it off. Now I just have to work out what, if anything, I might do about the box MTB seems to be putting T in. He doesn't seem to be allowing her to grow out of some of her previously negative behaviours. Maybe an email.
