It's one of those nights.

I wouldn't stay up to help a child with their homework, but when they've waited until 11pm!!!!!!!! to start packing for a 5 day hike, you sort of have to be around to make sure they don't die of hypothermia because they couldn't find the sleeping bag they used last time they went hiking.

He even had the day off school with a curriculum day, but he's only packing now.

grrrr

Heh. I'm about to go bush on a five day ground magnetics trip, and I'm packing my gear at the same time. And fixing my rockhammer. And considering whether I really need to take the camp cooker with the hexamine fuel tablets just because I may need to make some RDX out of it in an emergency should we need to blow something up.

Oops.

I was still packing for my week in Sydney at 9pm, and still sewing at 10pm. Ahem.

Poor Mrs Brown! Kids eh? Mind you, when I was No3s age, I wouldn't have packed until the last minute because I had "all day" to do that... Keep in mind the 5 days you'll have to recover and love said child once more upon his return.
