Thanks [livejournal.com profile] pearl, for this piece of amusement:

From Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marguerite_de_Valois

During this time Queen Marguerite wrote her memoirs, which were published in 1658, 43 years after her death. These writings consisted of a succession of stories relating to the affairs of brothers Charles IX and Henry III with her former husband, Henry IV that scandalized the population. The homely and strong-minded Marguerite was promiscuous throughout her life, and took many suppositories during her marriage, and many during her lifetime after divorcing. Most notably were Joseph Boniface de La Môle, Jacques de Harlay, Seigneur de Chanvallon and Louis de Bussy d'Amboise.

What word should be there?

Ah, that edit explains part of the rest that had me intrigued - mostly stories relating to the affairs of brothers Charles IX and Henry III with her former husband, Henry IV to be honest. I mean, that'd make the front page of every supermarket glossy going if it were happening today! (Heh, and now my downtime is going to be spent composing bad headlines.)

Supplementaries? Extracurricular activities? Horizontal folk-dancers?

Actually, I suspect that suppositories was exactly what was intended. Gross!
