posting from the couch
May. 29th, 2005 03:28 pmHah!
I'm sitting on my couch, using my new laptop, and I only had to pay $415 for the privilege!
Next, I get to finish that newsletter I've been putting off and then re-sort my finances. Then I'll work out what else I should be doing to organise that feast I'm in charge of.
These are all things I haven't done because I couldn't face sitting up at my desk to do them.
I'm re-learning all those keyboard shortcuts I learnt last time I owned a laptop, because I have to use the silly little nob in the middle of the keyboard to move the curser around. By the time we used my favourite bargaining technique, we had used up every cent we had in each of our wallets and couldn't even afford one of those tiny laptip mice.
The trick to bargaining at the computer market is to fail to bring quite enough money, go to a trader and suggest that there is another thing that is cheaper than what they have. Today, it was a laptop the second trader had for $499. We had $422.65. It's important to include ALL of your small change. He was willing to settle for $420. Unfortunately :) when we recounted, there was only $415. He was comitted to the sale, so accepted it.
I guess we didn't really save very much, but I do enjoy the process, and I now have a much better machine than I would have gotten for $349, which we first looked at.
