What did you do in New York? Lay on a bed in a small room in front of a fan and surfed the internet.

Mr-bassman says that today is our day of rest so it's ok We left Boston this morning, sat in a bus for 4 hours and then schlepped our too much luggage on the subway. It's hot and we're tired and we've been on the go for the last 5 days and, although I imagine we could have kept going until Monday when we will arrive at Pennsic, it's sort of nice to just lie here. We'll go and get money and dinner later and I guess we'll have the energy to go and see a band afterwards.

Yesterday we drove to Plimoth Plantation and had a lovely time. I was amused to notice that my expectation that a colonial village would be hot and dry was not disappointed - those settler types loved chopping down the trees.

I'm looking forward to reading the book I bought at the Plantation; The Building of the Green Valley. I initially took a photo so I could order it online later, but had to go back when I realised I was very keen to read it now!

In the afternoon we used the availability of a car to have an American mall experience- the reason we now have so much luggage; we bought shoes, thermarests and sleeping bags. I was also able to recover from the incipient migraine that threatened after spending hours in the sun drooling over recreated buildings and furniture from the 17th century. It was nice they were a recreation- I felt no hesitation in sitting on chairs, opening chests and handling kitchen gear. It was awesome.
