Today we emptied the kitchen, put masking tape around all the cupboards and plastic around all the adjacent doors.

Then we removed an awful lot of masonite to reveal Victorian lining boards (and a lot of yucky black dust that's probably toxic). Oh, and really cute lino that they used as packing under the masonite.

Tomorrow we've arranged to have Rose out of the house while we remove the ones on the ceiling, load the rubbish into a trailer (or skip that gets delivered...) and clean up the black dust.

Then the plan is to clean the boards and paint them. On Friday we take delivery of a bunch of cabinets (secondhand mdf ones, so they need painting) and hopefully we'll have somewhere for them to go by then.

On Saturday, we put the kitchen back together.

I might be dreaming, particularly as I would really like to replace the existing window, only partly motivated by the mess the lining boards are in there.

...and there's a skylight with my name on it at Dad's house.

And then I might as well get in the plumber and get him to move the sink to under the window!

If the lino is really cool, you could stick it in a frame and put it on your snazzy new kitchen wall as a momento.
