Avoid private obstetricians!

hmmm.
my sister in law had a baby today.
She had a planned caesarean because her family has a "history of big babies". I think its because she had private health insurance and didn't have anyone willing to convince her to trust her body.
He was 3kg - smaller than any of my babies.
Her birth choice would also explain why she was so quiet about her birth plans - I'm obviously terrifyingly evangelical.
Also, because I've been attacked on this stuff before, I'll clarify my position:
The WHO says that a caesar rate of 10-15% is reasonable. In 2000 NSW caesarean rates varied from 4.1 % to 35.2 %, depending on the hospital and in Victoria the average rate is 27%.
I'd like the people I care about to avoid being in the 20% of people who have unnecessary major abdominal surgery, with its own risk of death or injury and 4-6 weeks of uncomfortable recovery time.
