I have diagnosed myself as having handhand-foot-mouth disease.

My kids had it when they were small and I've now read the internet.

I have the little blisters beside my big toe, on my tongue and lips, and on the roof of my mouth. I also have itchy spots on my hands.

Today I have a slight sore throat.

Does anyone else I know have these symptoms?

I have that! Or rather, I have something rather similar on my hands and feet that recurs from time to time. I always thought it was vaguely seasonal or stress related though. I've got it on the palm of my right hand at the moment.

One time, a bunch of my friends all got some rather odd symptoms at the same time: peeling skin on the pads of our fingers, and sore tip of our tongues as if we'd burnt it drinking something hot. It took someone with a chronic immune system problem to actually pay attention and mention it one day, whereupon we all realised that we had the same thing. For her it was a bigger deal, for the rest of us, we just assumed we hadn't noticed burning our tongues and attributed the skin peelies to randomness, dry skin, or something.

Er, have had slight sore throat, fever and headache for two days now. A little ulcer thingy in my mouth started to come up yesterday but seems to be going away again, though I have the funny feeling near my tonsils that sometimes morphs into a throat ulcer. Since yesterday I've had some itchy red lumps on the back of my hand. No sign of anything untoward in the foot department, yet.

So why are we getting a childhood disease then?

I have been developing a theory that we all get our periods at the same time - synchronicity via LJ.

I _guess_ we could all catch the same skin disease too. :)

I noticed the blister on my foot on sunday morning. At first I thought it was overuse, but then I got the blisters on my lip - that weren't coldsores and got suspicious. It was confirmed when I go the blister on my tonge and roof of my mouth.

It is the right time of year for it, but I don't remember being in contact with a child of the right age in the preceding week.

It's a contact and droplet thing - as easy as catching a cold.

So who is this new icon and why does she look sleepy?

I once had a transient eye problem (it went pink and itchy for three days) the same time as an LJer in Minnesota. That was really bizarre. I kind of wish I'd bought a tattslotto ticket that week, I'd probably be a millionaire now.

I seem to recall the words "Coxsackie" and "virus" being mentioned in relation to onset of ME.

Mind you, a lot of viruses get mentioned in relation to the onset of ME, and mine happened after the common cold and a bout of sinusitis, which had no special name whatsoever.

Nonetheless, please do me a favour and don't be too stoic about it. No one ever died from taking it easy for a couple of days. :-)

Well, there were quite a few small children who might have breathed on me and/or others who then breathed on me at William Marshall.

Maybe you should post this to Stormlist ;-)

*Sigh*

Still feel crap. Have been to opera and am now going back to lie down.

She is my LJ namesake [canonical first name unknown] Kasabi!! Resistance leader extraordinaire from the episode Pressure Point in season two of Blake's 7. Who naturally, since she is a good guy, we meet only when her life goes down the toilet, she is betrayed and captured and tortured to death. Yay Blake's 7 and its reassuringly grim outlook on these matters!!!

She is looking a bit sleepy I'll allow, but I was planning to tart this icon up with a quote from another B7 episode ("some days are better than others") and have it as my not-feeling-well and shitty-day icon. She is looking like that cos she's had a long day, plus been bashed up by Travis, and now an overlarge dose of truth drug has just been added to the mix.

I must get to watching some Blake's 7 again soon.

You are turning me into such a geek.

I think you should definitely add the quote.

Now, I hope you read my comment to MrsB about this virus you probably all have and will be good and sensible, yes?

I actually have a mild gastric thing this weekend but it appears to just be nausea and a mild case of the runs.

no skin disease, but...

here's the thing. i get my period at the same time as my sister, mother, cousins, and sundry other female relatives. i also get it at the same time as all my girlfriends, all the girls at work (at every job i've ever been in), and seemingly the LJ community. in fact, every female i know.

to follow that to its logical conclusion, it's obvious all females always menstruate at exactly the same time, and as such it's not synchonicity but the natural order of things. it's probably to do with the gravitational pull of the moon or something. or else a subliminal ploy by libra to make their profit-and-loss statements look better at the start of each month. bastards.
