Z went out this morning to so some doorknocking. While suffering from shyness and turning back home, he wished he knew where Max was. As he thought this, he glanced towards the house and spied a small black and white face and paw.

We spent the next 30min trying to get close enough to get him. I tried food, I tried calling and then I tossed a roll-y toy and he played with it for a while, but ran away every time I tried to get closer.

Eventually, I got myself to the toy again, settled myself down and played with it until he couldn't stand watching any longer and pounced on it. I snatched at him, he snarled and scratched, but I caught him. He seemed really wild, but ten minutes later, inside the house, he let me pick him up and sat on my lap for five minutes while I patted him.

He's now going wild around the house, we can't get near him, he's jumping from thing to thing and running up and down the hallway. I guess that's standard kitten behaviour and we haven't seen it very much because he's had the 'flu.

On Friday morning when I woke to find him asleep on the pillow between J and I, I wasn't sure I was going to let him into the bedroom at night, this morning I really missed it. I'm glad we found him.

I swore blind I was never going to keep the kittens. Then we named her.

I swore blind I was never going to let Pachelbel onto the bed. Within a week of her coming inside, if she wasn't on the bed at bedtime, I would go and find her.

Sounds like he's still a wee bit freaked out, on top of the usual kittenish antics. Lots of lap sitting and patting is needed. Pat him quietly whenever you feed him too(this is how I've friended feral kittens).

When he's going spare indoors you should probably just let him be.

Goes without saying that I'm still half asleep.

Was going to reply to the 'missing' post, and then I saw this. A much happier thing to be replying to... :)

Sounds like the nature of kittens to me. Mine has gone missing more than once, both as a kitten and as an adult cat. We've found him again each time, but it's been up to a week on at least one occasion. We've found him: locked in cupboard for 24 hours; locked in a ?possum trap for 48-72 hours; at our old house for anything up to 5 days etc etc etc.

I hope the little furry bugger doesn't do it again, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if he does. So long as he's tagged and collared (and chipped for extra credit points) he should be fine. Don't sweat it too much for at east 3 days if it happens again.

Kittens are spacko! They have to be that bloody cute to make up for all their annoying qualities. Good luck...

Glad you found cat.

Still not convinced about the name.

Some people feel that names with sibilant sound are not good for cats becasue it's the noise they make at each other when cross.

Puss Puss Puss Puus Puss

If the name Max is so unsuitable, what about all those cats which come running for food when the hear Puss-Puss-Puss-Puus-Puss ????
