Which Heinlein Book Should You Have Been A Character In?
brought to you by Quizilla

Eeugh! that's a nasty comment. I should maybe read that book - I have no idea what it's about.

I went to the Stromhold baronial meeting tonight - what a waste of my time! There they all were, discussing a new rub on the issue I resolved for them months ago! the meeting can't pay its way, even with this energy put into it - it should be disbanded, like we decided 3 months ago.

They're going to ask the church if they can have reduced rent and otherwise they'll move to a meeting room at Melb Uni.

That swimming pool problem I had last week - my first assertion was correct - I am an idiot. the reason I had so much trouble with it... I multiplied by 3.6 instead of dividing by 3.6. This meant I was wrong and now I have to work out what to say when the architect asks why the ducts are now 1/3 the size I originally told him. hmmm.

...nope.. there's no more - I'm going to bed

The book is about a dirty old man, who happens to be rich enough that when he is dying his brain gets transplanted into the body of his nubile young secretary (who he has lusted after). But the consciousness of the former owner of the body re-emerges and has conversations with him. Then it gets stranger because he goes and gets his new body impregnated with a semen sample that his old body had stashed away. Then his new body (which already has two minds in it) is bonking some guy who has a heart attack and dies, and his mind moves into the new bod as well.

And then I forget what happens.

I was never certain whether this book was supposed to be a real novel, or whether it was supposed to be very amusing trash.

Um.. we are talking Heinlein here, he is the past master of the amusing trash! (I have to say that I have read this book several times here) This may say bad things about me but there you go. I am fond of Heinlein even at his trashyest! MrsBrown, I can lend you the book if you want to read it. Some social prediction (dated) some romping, some sex, not much thought required!

re-baronial meeting.

Are you *really* surprised? They want the meeting to continue. Regardless. You are dealing with human beings. Logic is not to be expected.

And.... they probably feel proud and virtuous about their great commitment to keeping the meeting going. So if I were you, I'd let 'em play as best they can. If they can find a cheaper venue, great.

The bit that surprised me is that it wasn't the meeting old farts who came up with the melb uni idea.

It was the proto baroness - who shouldn't have enough time to organise this stuff, and I guess I'm also surprised at the other baronial committee members (not the Thurs meeting attendees)for letting all that happen when I gave them an out 6 months ago.

I'm sort of pissed off that I wasn't there earlier to remind people about the previous decision. I thinkk the Thurs meeting is holding something else from happening.

I don't know what and I'm not volunteering, so in lots of ways, I have no say.

As Sui said when I was incredulous about what the proto B is taking on - "are you volunteering, 'cos if you're not you should shut up now"

The simple solution is that the Barony stops paying for it. They did that for the heavy training meeting at Otter St. There are now far more regular trainings in Stormhold/Melbourne.

So your point is sound. In fact, I have been in favour of abolishing the silly thing for at least 4 years. But to a depressing number of people, Stormhold is the Thursday night meeting. Which tells you so much of what is wrong with the culture of Stormhold.

If I remember, I will express my firm view on the matter to both incoming B's at Sunday training.
