Die Hard

Blobbed on the couch this evening. I intended to go to bed early, like a virtuous, sensible, tired pregnant woman.

Then Die Hard started, and I realised it was an explosion movie...in a building...under construction.

I'm a sucker for movies like that. I get to say things like;

NO!!! when there's a fire, only the sprinkler/s directly above the fire go off, not the whole room, and definitely not the whole building.

or

I don't know how far he thinks he'll get with that hydrant hose wrapped round his waist when he jumps off the top of the building - hydrant hoses are only 30m long, or 60m long if he' s lucky

or

When he wants to climb through that rotating fan, why doesn't he just turn of the power at the isolating switch every fan is required to have?

or

You know, that grille he's peeking through while hiding in that duct is completely unrealistic. We never use grilles on the underside of ducts, they're too noisy.

or

I don't think the hangers on those ducts could hold his weight, they're only rated for about 30kg, particularly for a small duct like that.

or

I think the sheet metal in that duct would buckle under his weight inside and betray his location to the baddie.

or

How could he climb through a large ventilation fan, as might be used for smoke exhaust or similar, and get into the lift motor room? Lift motor rooms have to be fire isolated from the rest of the building - you can only get into them from the lift shaft or the access door, they're not allowed to have any other openings.

I enjoyed watching Towering Inferno a long time ago, for similar reasons. What other movies should I make sure I watch?

Well in the case of The Towering Inferno there is an excuse in that the whole reason for the disaster is that the builders cut corners in the construction.

On the other hand, maybe you should send your list to the Mythbusters team and see what they do with it.:-)

...and to think I watch it for the fight scenes. (I like to rewind and watch them in slow motion, although Steven Seagal is my personal fave for that particular hobby.) Oh, and Alan Rickman of course.

Ooh - there's a Steven Seagal one where he's playing in an oil refinery. Get that one. We'll watch it together.
