So I've just thrown up in the evening for about the tenth time. Obviously this morning sickness thing is a misnomer, in the US I understand it is called Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy, or NVP for short.

I always thought that morning sickness would involve quietly heading to the toilet at the appropriate time, regurgitating the contents of my stomach and then getting on with the rest of my life. Instead, I have two to three hours of feeling unwell, including sweating, followed by the feeling of "I must arrange to throw up, NOW", and then violent heaving and dry retching until my bladder completely loses control and my eyes weep. It's not nice and I don't understand women who vomit several times a day and continue to attend their workplaces. Although the stomach calm after the storm is almost worth it. These 20min following my vomiting are some of the most human of my day.

In other news, I am an achievo bear! I have made 3 quiche/tarts for monthly bash tomorrow and there is more than a litre of Chardwarden for household porridge sitting cooling on my stove. Who wants some?

It's finally happening.

Soon 'achievo-bear' will be in the dictionary.

Hooray!

PS - sorry you're feeling blah.

And then we shall be able to dispute whether it ought to be "achievo-bear", "achievo bear" or (my preferred option) "achievobear".

I'm sorry you're havin' that naughty NVP too, mrsbrown.

I hope that the morning sickness passes quickly, and I hope that you can keep some fluids down. Hospital on a drip can be bad...

Actually, it's not that bad

At the mo' I am eating breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch and arvo tea. I'm not even in an awful lot of discomfort, thanks to overdosing on Gaviscon.

"morning sickness" seems to kick in sometime after 8pm and the Gaviscon stops working and I just feel like crap, and sometimes, I throw up just before bed. I have learnt that drinking Gaviscon before throwing up is a really bad idea.

Throwing up is just a bad idea. Bleargh. So bring on the second trimester I say...mind you it took me until almost the 5th month before I started to feel OK, then it was short lived with the high bloodpressure kicking in.

Yeah I found that ginger was the best. Does that work for you?

NVP? Bleah! Had any number of customers suffering from it over the years (apparently I am the medic at Clown to discuss ob/gyn problems with - all the others get nervous).

I'm going to assume that you know all this, but just in case...

MORNING SICKNESS TREATMENTS (Health Minutes: 31/03/2005)

A three-week trial in Adelaide compared two different treatments for nausea in pregnancy - a B vitamin called pyridoxine, and ginger extract. Both seemed to work well, with few side effects.

and...
