< sarcasm filter>Hooray! < /sarcasm filter>

I had a standard screening test for diabetes last week and I failed it. Now I have to go and do the full fasting test.

Even worse, on reading the symptoms, I've got them or often have them.

Diabetes often has no obvious symptoms. If symptoms occur, they can include:

Unusual thirst
Excessive hunger
Excessive urination
Thrush infections
High blood pressure.

Other risk factors/indicators include - over 35, last baby over 4kg, overweight or obese

I'm often excessively thirsty, especially when I've overeaten/eaten the wrong thing and my heartburn/gastric thingy is playing up.

I frequently have days when I eat constantly. Sometimes I have a lolly to stop myself from feeling the awful blood sugar low that I seem to have on those days when I'm excessively hungry.

I don't do the other three, but I have been very uncomfortable with the way my body copes with blood sugar - I seem to have a lot of peaks and troughs.

Amusingly, besides managing diet, exercise is suggested. But I can't walk! (yes, I know, I can go swimming, or ride my bike.

Anyway, I'm grumpy about it!

Is this something that will resolve when the pregnancy is over?

Good luck with the test.

Yes.

Although if you do get Gest. Diabetes you have a 20-50% chance of developing type 2 diabetes in the next 20 years.

I feel much better after Nobbles comment.

Yep, that is reassuring.

If it does happen, there are strategies for delaying onset. Got a book if you want to borrow it. (GI diet basically)

I was told that one in four pregnant chicks fail the diabetes test the first time round. I did. So did my friend Micaela. I had all of those indicators as well. The thing that you dont have is unusual/accelerated weight gain during the pregnancy. That tends to be another indicator. Dont panic. Whichever it is, d or not d, you can manage it. You are already watching carefully what you eat. Drink loads of water. crossing my fingers for the test.

Hoorah for being grumpy about it.
It's the best way of dealing with things.

O Bother, said Pooh.

OTOH, one GP or another has decided 3 or 4 times that I have diabetes but I tend to pass the tests when they give them to me.

Good luck, anyway. We can swap needle stories. :)
