mrsbrown: (sca wind)
We went away for the weekend to the Yarra Valley Medieval Festival

We spent Friday packing the trailer, driving, setting up tents and all our furniture.

On Saturday it was very muggy. It rained sometimes. We talked to some people about the joys of the SCA.

In the evening we ate pie for dinner and then went to talk to people. I followed [livejournal.com profile] villana and someone else around so I could catch the next installment. I was successful.

The wind started to blow. I checked the tents. I played with the Baronial Pavilion to stop it from leaking from the rain. The roof is stretched so this was difficult. I went to chat and watch some more.

The wind blew harder and I went to check the sunshades again. On the way I walked past a tent that had blown away and was broken.

While I was checking the sunshades, I noticed that there were a lot of people at the baronial pavilion and it was lying on the ground. Some side poles had snapped and a guy had pulled free and the tent fell down. Luckily there was someone awake in the tent to catch the pole as it fell.

Here's a picture of one of the tents in the full wind.

We spent the next 2-3 hours checking pegs, walls and guys. When the Barn tent ridge pole broke we lowered it and pegged the roof over the things we had in there. I was not very effective at making decisions and I thought it was my baby brain problem.

I was wrong. It was night time. In the morning I was very good at working out what to do with the disaster and telling people what to do.
