Manufactured WCTs that have been accredited by NSW Health are the Rota Loo, Dowmus and Clivus Multrum. The Enviro Loo, a waterless dessicating toilet also has approval. Advisory notes and accreditation guidelines are available from NSW Health, Gladesville or from the world wide web at: (www.health.nsw.gov.au/publichealth/ehb/general/wastewater.html). Owner-built WCTs such as the Minimus and Farallones Batch have been found to enjoy a high level of user satisfaction (Pollard et al., 1997). Plans and building instructions for these two designs can be obtained from R Flanagan, ph 02 66 886 307, email rayflanagan@hotmail.com.

There is a standard for waterless toilets - AS/NZS 1546.2:2001. It's being revised and the draft is available for free. - http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=MSWD06928ATCRD
It refers to the main standard for a description of how to handle the leachate. The standard costs $163.15, but I think
sjkasabi has full access to the standards via the university. Otherwise, we can look at them in the library and photocopy the relevant bits. AS/NZS 1547:2000 : On-site domestic wastewater management
What to do with leachate?
- separate urine from solid waste I THINK THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GO!
- evaporate leachate - http://www.rotaloo.com/evaporator.pdf

Date: 2007-01-09 09:30 am (UTC)This is cool, though, and while I'm here, R thought it would be fine for you to have a detailed but theoretical (so if we were interested in doing x, how would that fit with the regs?) technical conversation with Yass council. So go for it, eh?
