me and food
Mar. 1st, 2005 02:15 pmI have always liked food. I have always eaten everything on my plate, particularly if I like it, and regardless of how full I feel. I have regularly made myself quite unwell cramming in dessert after a really good meal, because the dessert sounded so good, or was put in front of me. I did develop a healthy distrust of pavlova after I ate 5 pieces at a party once, they tasted good and I turned off the discomfort in my tummy for the taste in my mouth. Of course, I blame my mother for my unhealthy attitude to food and have made a point of allowing my children to leave food on their plates when they say they are full.
But now, I have to renegotiate my relationship with food.
I have to eat small amount, or I feel sick, and I have to force myself to drink water, despite feeling sick
But I'm completely obsessed with food. Today I have eaten; 3 vita wheat biscuits, a tablespoon of vanilla yoghurt, half a glass of orange juice (that was a mistake), 2 cashews and a quarter of a toasted cheese sandwich. The other 3 quarters are calling me from the kitchen because I only put the quarter I knew it was sensible to eat on the plate I brought with me to the comp. I have also managed to drink about 3 glasses of water or ginger beer cordial.
I am, in fact, not feeling too bad. I could probably go to work but I'm not sure how to manage work with doing the sort of grazing on food I need to do. And bringing food with me means that I'll be more likely to eat it and make myself sick. You can't ration it by degree of difficulty, the way I can here.
Oh well, I'm sure I'll work it out.
